Our Journey in the Philippines

Iā€™m currently in the second week of our POGI outreach in the Philippines. Last week, I dedicated my time to our kids' outreach in San Vicente, Quezon City, where we hosted an Easter party and distributed 100 meals and treats. Additionally, I visited the People of Grace school in Kamuning, Quezon City, engaging with students and staff, reading stories, and interacting with students in various classes.

During my visit, I had the opportunity to meet Christine, one of our scholars, at her home. Witnessing a family of 7 living in a single room was eye-opening, highlighting the challenging circumstances faced by many families in the Philippines. Christine's mother was visibly emotional as she shared their struggles, especially after her husband, a former security guard, suffered a stroke, leaving them without a consistent source of income. Despite their hardships, Christine expressed gratitude for the scholarship, emphasizing how it provides hope for their future. She encourages other youth facing similar challenges to persevere and remain resilient. The lack of ventilation in their home became overwhelming, prompting me to excuse myself to catch some fresh air. We are immensely grateful for our dedicated workers on the ground who provide a safe and supportive environment for families like Christine's.

Holy Week holds significant importance in the Philippines, marked by religious practices and meditations on Jesus' journey to the cross. I feel privileged to spend this time at a youth camp in Bulan, Sorsogon, where I'm one of the speakers. This camp, the first in-person event since the pandemic began, holds special significance, and it was crucial for us to show our support. Despite the challenges posed by rain and simple accommodations, the campers displayed remarkable resilience, fully engaging in the camp's activities. It's inspiring to witness the genuine desire of these young individuals to follow God and improve their lives.

Thank you for being a part of making dreams come true through the POGI Foundation.

With heartfelt thanks,
