Growing Gratitude
Every good habit is learned until it becomes a part of our nature.
As I was speaking recently on how to bless the next generation, I recalled the people and experiences that impacted me and set me on the path I’m on. I couldn’t help but tear up as I was overwhelmed by so much gratitude for them.
It’s hard to even keep writing this as I am once again getting emotional just at the thought of the generosity and acts of kindness shown to me on my journey in life.
My gratitude ranges from thoughts of my parents who raised us well, who taught us to take risks, and who took us on adventures. I think about those who generously hosted me in their homes, who supported my education and mission trips — and to many more who helped make my dreams for myself and others come true. God has proved himself true to His promises time and again.
Gratitude helps us make better decisions in thankfulness to those who have invested in us, and it teaches us to “pay it forward”. However, it’s not something that comes naturally. Today, let’s pause and think of the good things in our life, trace them back to how they started, and take the time to say “thank you”. Let’s encourage our children to notice the blessings they have and grow in gratitude by being thankful for every little thing. This will not only make them better individuals, but healthier in mind and spirit, ready to grace this world with positivity despite all the trouble and uncertainty we face.
Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian (and American) friends!
