Ruby’s Story
Hi, I'm Ruby.
I used to live as an informal settler here in the Philippines.
I knew of People of Grace since I was five years old when they visited our informal settlement (slum area) every Saturday for kids programs. They also invited us to attend weekly Sunday services. Since then, I volunteered in leading the kids programs they ran in our neighborhood and at People of Grace.
I was going into my 2nd year of high school when their school held free summer classes. I grabbed this opportunity to attend with my two younger sisters and some of my friends.
I was amazed with how they were able to teach advanced lessons, and yet help us easily learn. Because of this, I did not hesitate to ask Ma’am Buena if I could be a high school scholar at People of Grace. Thankfully, I was accepted, and they found me a sponsor.
I thank God that it was His plan for me to be a scholar of People of Grace so that I could finish my studies. Because of their advanced lessons that they obtained from Singapore and the US, I was also able to graduate college from Polytechnic University of the Philippines, one of our prestigious universities. They continued to help me financially with my studies until I graduated college.
Since I graduated, our family life has changed and we have been blessed abundantly. We relocated to a small village here in Bulacan, where we now have a house that we can really call our own, with no hesitations or fear that all the things that we bought for our house would be destroyed due to fire of our community. (We had suffered two fires in our informal settlement). I have a career in the recruitment industry as an HR Recruiter at Cardinal Santos Medical Center.
This enables me to sustain our family’s wants and needs, which was my dream since I was a kid.
Without the help I received to finish my studies, whether it was financially or in any aspect, we could not get what our family has finally obtained.
I hope and pray that more people will help passionate students to finish their studies in the same way I was supported.
