Make Momentous Memories This 2024 (Blog)

When we provide the next generation with growth experiences, we gift them with momentous memories that equip them for life.

I was blessed with a family that braved uncertainty, distant lands, and uncomfortable circumstances.

Here are some memories they gave me that served as building blocks for my life.

As a teen, my mom took me and my little brother to Tibet in China for outreach. Due to a very low budget, our first trip exposed us to packed hard seat trains where we sat for hours, outhouses, no showers in motels, and sleeping in strangers homes or in a tent in the middle of nowhere in freezing weather. I endured high altitudes and food I could barely eat or keep down. It was so cold that my breath formed icicles on my stray hairs.

My experience in the extreme weather of China prepared me for the two winters I ended up staying in Saskatchewan for school. I would never have chosen to live there, but I didn’t say no when my dad sent me. On days I didn’t have a ride, I walked to school in the below zero weather without even drying my hair after a shower. The extreme winter was nothing to me, because the buildings and homes had electric heaters—a luxury I didn’t have when we were in Tibet or on a farm in New York during my parents sabbatical.  At the farm, we had a wooden stove we had to collect wood for, and it would take a while for the house to heat up after we arrived home.

Growing up in the Philippines and doing outreach to tribes in the cold mountains with my parents also prepared me for these winter moments in New York, China and Saskatchewan.

This 2024, let us offer our kids and youth life experiences that serve as building blocks to equip them for their purpose and pursuits in life.

Have a momentous 2024!

Warm regards,
